Team Managers, please confirm officials are present 15-minutes prior to the start of your game.
What do I do if no referees show up to our game?
- Phone or text Natalie Williams at 780-719-6810 so she can contact the referee assignors.
- If the game start time has commenced, recruit a mutually agreed upon coach from each team to referee. One coach will suffice if that is all you can manage.

EFHL/NAHL/REMHL League Games:
SMHA will automatically schedule officials for all scheduled league games. Referee rates for EFHL league games are different than exhibition games as they are negotiated by Hockey Edmonton. NAHL & REMHL rates are the same as exhibition games (Hockey Alberta rates). Should there be any game changes, the ice/referee allocators must be contacted immediately. Re-scheduling of games is subject to ice and referee availability.
Teams are expected to have cash for referees at all games and request a receipt for SMHA records. Teams will be issued an advance payment for referee costs associated with league games.
You must communicate game changes to SMHA Admin & General Manager so referees can be re-assigned.
Teams are responsible for referee payment for all exhibition games. Exhibition/Hockey Alberta rates will apply. When scheduling exhibition games please provide:
- Date, Time, Location, Age group and Tier.
2025-26 HOCKEY ALBERTA REFEREE RATES
If only 1 referee attends a game, fees are 80% of the 2-referee rates.
