Provincial/National Competition Bursary

1. Purpose

The purpose of the Provincial / National Competition Bursary is to provide financial assistance to Strathcona Minor Hockey teams that qualify for or are invited to participate in Provincial or National level competitions, thereby supporting player development and competitive opportunities beyond regular league play.

2. Eligibility

• The bursary is available to teams registered with Strathcona Minor Hockey.
• Eligible events include Provincials, Nationals, or other Board-recognized Provincial or National competitions.
• Teams must submit the formal application below prior to the event.
• Individual teams will only be eligible to receive one bursary per season.

3. Bursary Amount and Season Definition

• The maximum total bursary funding available per season is $5,000.
• The season is defined as September 1 to April 30.
• Once the $5,000 seasonal maximum has been fully allocated, no further applications will be accepted for that season.
• Unused bursary funds at the end of the season will not carry forward to future seasons.

4. Application Requirements

Teams applying for the bursary must submit:

• A completed bursary application form; and
• A detailed event budget outlining anticipated costs (e.g., travel, accommodation, registration fees) to gm@smhahockey.com

Applications must be submitted in advance of the competition and before the seasonal bursary funds have been exhausted.

5. Review and Approval

• All applications will be reviewed by the Strathcona Minor Hockey Board.
• The Board will either approve or deny each request at its discretion, based on available funds, completeness of the application, and alignment with organizational priorities.
• Board decisions are final.

6. Disbursement of Funds

• Approved funds will be distributed in accordance with Board direction.
• Funds may be issued as a reimbursement or direct payment, as determined by the Board.

7. Policy Administration

• This policy will be administered by Strathcona Minor Hockey.
• The Board reserves the right to amend, suspend, or discontinue this policy at any time.
